WELCOME TO TCZ'S CODE TUTORING!

The Coding Zone will soon be offering code tutoring on Javascript and PHP. Anyone can participate in this, even if you are new to the board (but you need to be registered). There will be a total of 8 lessons (of each language) to start off and they will be run at the same time. At the start of each lesson you will be given a run down of what your learning, some examples of it and some links to helpful resources. You will then be asked to make a code of some description based on what you have just learnt and learnt in past lessons. We will look at your code, test that it works, and give you feedback on it. There is no penalty for getting anything wrong. The courses proceed at the tutor's speed - usually when everyone has finished the coding task but sometimes earlier if people are usually taking too long. (Appox. 1 week)

NOTE: If you miss any lesson, it is not the tutor's responsibility to contact you or backtrack to re-teach the lesson. The topic will be there for you to view. However, your homework, whether you do it or not, may not be reviewed so if you do anything wrong, that's your fault. Although you should do the homeworks that you missed for experience, it is not mandatory if you're late. If you miss 3 homework or 3 lessons, you will be kicked out of the course without warning. So please plan accordingly.

The Javascript course will be hosted by Eureka. You be able to use techniques used in this course for making codes for Invisionfree and Zetaboard forums.

JavaScript Course Outline

1. document.write(), Strings, numbers, operators, comparisons, comment lines and all the basics
2. String, number, math logic, date, boolean manipulations. Array introduction.
3. While/For loops + if ... else statements + switch, break command. Try and catc
4. creating functions and returning values
5. Intro to HTML DOM. document.getElementsByTagName, document.getElementById, className, ID, innerHTML, and replace
6. Introduction to RegExp. Short lesson. Help those to catch up if they're behind.
7. JS Cookies - fetch and make cookies (uncertain, but thinking about it)
8. iFrames introduction and HTML DOM.

The PHP tutorial will be hosted me (Panzer). You will be able to  use techniques on this course for making more complex codes for invisionfree but also get a basis for making modifications for SMF, IPB, vBulletin.

PHP Course Outline

1. PHP tags, echos, variables
2. String types, manipulation
3. Arrays and how to use them
4. Forms - GET and POST
5. Functions - existing and writing your own.
6. Cookies and sessions
7. Files - creating, writing, deleting
8. Security

We expect you to finish the coding task every week. If you cannot, for one reason or another, please let us know so the course can move on. You can finish the task but we may/may not give feedback on it. You can then proceed to carry on with the course. Remember that if you have missed 3 lessons, you're out of the course.

We look forward to seeing you. This service will only be effective if we get members, so please join and participate.

To register/sign up for this, please reply to this topic saying what courses you woud like to participate in (You can do both).

Hello,
Twister, we don't make the decision for you. You'll have to decide whether you want to take PHP or JavaScript. You can try to do both but since this is your first time, it'll be quite overwhelming. So please pick one. I would say maybe JavaScript is a tad easier than PHP for starters though. Still your decision.

So sign me up for PHP XD
Hmmm raises the question for myself if I know how to teach flash XD

Hello,
You can if you want. Just know that if you miss 3 classes and or 3 homework assignments, you're automatically out. So unless you have a lot of time, I wouldn't consider it unless you've programmed before and know the gist of things, meaning you can pick up on new materials easily.

@Zapper: If you know the any 3 lessons, just do the homework to prevent further complications. Should be easy on your part if you know the materials. Wink

Note: attendance is usually measured by your homework. If you choose to BS your way through your homework just for attendance, that's fine. We teach our class as is so if you miss have a question on the lesson that you don't understand and you don't bother asking questions, that's your responsibility as well. Just note that we teach the lesson and if you choose to BS your way through it, then that's your choice.

I had super human powers, but my therapist took them away.

I don't need something worked out, my question was hypothetical, well... yeah, I know a few but I don't mind relearning something, MIGHT teach me something I skipped over.
